Type or pick a symbol. Pip size and units per lot are set from the instrument and can be overridden below.

Linked to the price above — edit either one.

Advanced: contract size, pip size, currency conversion

Set from the instrument for currency pairs. For metals, indices, crypto and stocks this page assumes USD — change it if your broker prices the symbol in something else.

Set this only if the instrument’s quote currency differs from your account currency. This page has no live rate feed, so nothing here is filled in for you.

Result

Position size (standard lots)
Units
Mini lots (0.10)
Micro lots (0.01)
Risk amount
Value per pip (per standard lot)
Required margin
Stop loss distance

Risk amount is capped by the risk % you typed. Lot size is rounded down, never up, so you never risk more than intended.

How the position size is calculated

Every number on this page comes from these four lines — nothing else, no hidden adjustments:

risk amount = account balance × risk % stop distance = | entry price − stop loss price | units = risk amount ÷ (stop distance × fx rate) lots = units ÷ units per lot pip value per lot = pip size × units per lot × fx rate required margin = (units × entry price × fx rate) ÷ leverage

Worked example (the numbers loaded in the calculator by default): a 10,000 USD account, 1% risk, EUR/USD entry 1.1000, stop loss 1.0950. Stop distance is 0.0050 = 50 pips. Risk amount is 100 USD. Units = 100 ÷ 0.0050 = 20,000 units of EUR/USD, which is 0.20 standard lots, 2.00 mini lots or 20.00 micro lots. Pip value per standard lot = 0.0001 × 100,000 = 10 USD. At 1:30 leverage the required margin is (20,000 × 1.1000) ÷ 30 = 733.33 USD.

FAQ

What is a lot size calculator?

A lot size calculator turns three numbers you already know — account balance, the percentage of that balance you are willing to risk, and how far away your stop loss is — into a position size in lots and units. It is the same tool that is often called a position size calculator or a forex lot calculator; the name changes, the calculation does not.

How do I use a forex position size calculator?

Fill in account currency, balance, risk per trade, instrument, entry price and stop loss price. The stop loss in pips is filled for you from the two prices, or you can type the pip distance and the price updates. The result gives standard, mini and micro lots, the raw unit count, the money at risk, the value of one pip and the margin the position needs.

Why does my lot size differ from another position size calculator?

Almost always one of three things: a different contract size (units per standard lot), a different pip size for the pair, or a missing currency conversion between the pair’s quote currency and your account currency. All three are editable on this page under “Advanced”, so you can match your broker exactly instead of trusting a default.

Does it work for gold, indices, crypto and stocks, not just forex?

Yes — but the word “lot” means different things outside forex, so the page also shows the raw unit count (ounces, contracts, coins, shares) and lets you set units per lot yourself. The calculation is the same: risk amount divided by the money you lose per unit at your stop.

Does this calculator use live market prices?

No. There is no live feed and no fake data — you type the entry price, stop loss price and, if needed, the currency rate. Everything is computed in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.

Do I need to register or log in?

No. There is no account, no email capture and no saved history. If you want to keep a result, press “Copy results”.
